I've owned 2 of these lamps, merely because I like the style, and the base is heavy and sturdy. It looks nice, but is undoubtedly the WORST lamp I've ever owned.

The first flaw of this lamp is the switch. It is incredibly difficult to turn on, unless it's warmed up. Once the lamp is cool for a long after being off, the switch becomes nearly impossible to turn without it cracking the plastic it's mounted on. If you forcibly turn it, it soon "cracks" and spins freely, no longer engaging the light.

The second flaw is the actual lampshade itself. The bulb burns close enough that it gets so hot that it's unable to be adjusted with the bare hand. The whole idea behind this lamp is to encourage adjustability, but it becomes untouchable once it's been turned on long enough. (Both of mine got too hot within 5 minutes.)

The third flaw is also in the lampshade. On both of my lamps, the lightbulb burnt a hole is the flimsy plastic shade. Each time I'd turn on the lamp, the hole would melt a little bit more, it would've gotten to the point where the shade would've fallen off completely, but both lamp switches seized up before it got to that point.

Long story short, do not expect this lamp to last more than a week or two. I foolishly wasted $60 on these lamps.

I was disappointed when I received this lamp mainly because of the PLASTIC lampshade that does not allow one to actually "screw" the shade so it stays on the lamp. It has more of a sliding lock system but it doesn't lock on tight enough. The PLASTIC lampshade was packed so tightly in the box, it did not keep it's original (round) shape. I am concerned that the PLASTIC lampshade may get too hot and burn the PLASTIC lampshade. This is purchased for my son's room at his father's home. It won't be used often, but I am concerned about it. The base and arm are somewhat sturdy, however, the way the user attaches the arm to the base is flimsy at best.

This lamp should be priced no higher than the $10 to $20 range, not over $50 as it is.

I would not recommend this lamp. Check out Target for a similar lamp with a METAL shade that is much sturdier and costs a lot less!
