Buy May Day table lamp by Flos
I got one of these lamps in 2005 or so; it has seen a lot of use since then. It throws a nice diffuse light, can be hung from a hook or placed on a table, and is light and stylish. And, of course, it's always handy to be able to wrap the cord up easily. I thought it would be a slightly silly purchase at the time, but I've greatly enjoyed this lamp.
