The lamp is very well-weighted to sustain outdoor wind. Mine is in a covered room so I can't vouch for it on an open porch, but all the parts are designed to withstand the elements. Fairly easy to assemble.

We love the outdoor lamps. I've had fabric shades before on outdoor lamps. They did not hold up at all. The shades look like rattan and I believe they will last a long time. The bases are heavy which helps keep them upright in windy weather.
