It said that it had a continuously variable light switch (like a stereo volume control) but it came with a "Low, High, Off" rotary switch!

Call me a perfectionist, but when I spend 2 hours online looking for "just the right lamp" (on a low budget) I expect to get what is advertised. Amazon sellers seem to screw up their orders and the info they post about the item(s) they are selling. I think I'll look on eBay exclusively from now on! eBayers tend to mind the details better than the idiots who sell on Amazon.com!

The hinge won't hold hte lamp in position on the middle range of the arc: It can be at a high anble or a very low angle, but not at the angle I want to illuminate my keyboard.

I didn't have real high expectations for this lamp given its price on Amazon (although I've seen it for quite a bit more on some other sites), but the components are mostly plastic. The switch rotates through low / high / off settings. Be aware that although it looks like the arm swivels at two joints, the lower joint only moves between an upright / vertical position, and AFT. Because the light is rather small to start with, this means you can't really position the bulb portion very far forward of the base.

The switch is an old turning style I would have preferred the rocker style. The low light setting is too weak. The hinges are very weak. You must tighten the hinges when you get it, or the lamp will not stay at any angle. Considering all that it's not a bad lamp for the money. Amazon's Prime choices are very limited in this area.

This is cheap and flimsy. It has a hard time holding it's position without sinking due to it's weight. The bulb has two settings, dim and dimmer. It doesn't give bright enough light to do anything with. It's a waste of money.
