I've had this for about a year and abuse it quite a bit. The cover on the magnifying glass is very important, other wise it becomes a dust collector. The light comes on in about 5 seconds. It is plenty bright enough. Mine are fluorescent tubes.
Maybe i over tighened the bottom knob and then raised an lowered it too many times. But after a year, it broke. Can't be fixed unless you know how to weld aluminum. Maybe mine was defective. I was sad. But a year later, i couldnt' find anything i like better so i bought another. I don't usually do that. I'm going to baby this one. 4.5 stars.

This lamp is a very sturdy, good quality lamp and it is great for my husband's workshop. The long arm allows excellent adjustment for whatever project he is working on. Since he has vision in only one eye, he has trouble with depth perception at close distances. He loves this new lamp which allows him to see much better than a magnifying glass with a separate light -no more trying to line up everything to eliminate shadows. He is considering buying another for his desk.
