I use these in most places throughout my house, and they do save money. I have not had any break, and they last a very long time, much longer than a regular bulb. This price is very good, and less than my local "wholesale" club. Also, you are doing a little extra to help the environment. Keep in mind that this is a fluorescent bulb and so cannot be put on a dimmer (there are some CFL's that are dimmable, just not this one). I find it takes just a few seconds for the bulb to come to full power in the cold and in the house it comes up like a regular bulb. One last note, the end of the bulb is not as rounded and may not fit in some fixtures. It is not much different, but worth noting for those rare fixtures. The last two are my reason for 4 stars. I would have been happier giving it 4.5 stars, but that isn't possible.

Bright white light. Much brighter then what I expected. I use this in my fish tank, replacing the factory installed light. Makes my Betta look much nice. Amazing differenceBest Deals for GE Lighting 97659 Energy Smart Spiral CFL 13-Watt (60-Watt
Certainly more light per watt than regular light bulbs, but every now and then I'll hear one of them whine. Not really a big deal for say, bathroom or closet lights where you are in and out, but for a reading light you might not like it. I use them all over the house and in all four of my outside lights. I have noticed that the cold (30-40 degree temp) will delay their full brightness for the first minute or so, but if you need to leave an outside light on all night for security reasons, this is what you want as you get a very bright white light for only 26 watts of power usage. It is a white light, not yellowish like a regular bulb nor bluish like the early CFL models when they first came out.

This item is classified in the candelabra section, but it does not have a candelabra base. It's base if for regular sockets, not candelabra sockets.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for GE Lighting 97659 Energy Smart Spiral CFL 13-Watt (60-Watt
I purchased 10 of these bulbs and exchanged for two additional bulbs after two failed. A total of 4 out of 12 have failed with the first bulb failing within the first 20 minutes of use. None of the failed bulbs lasted more than four hours. This is a 33.3% rate of failure. None of the bulbs were cycled as done with incandescents. The shortest amount of time a bulb was on is twenty minutes and this was only done once. The longest they were on is four hours. There is a strong chance that the failure rate can be higher since four of the bulbs are on fixtures that have not been on for more than the initial hour. I have purposely not used these fixtures and now will commit to testing the reliability of these four. From my average, I should see one bulb fail.
Another negative of these bulbs is the humming noise that is emitted and can be heard from a distance of 10 feet. If you are in a relatively noisy area this humming won't be as noticeable.
I do not recommend this GE bulb: 20w 1200 lumens #15516. There is no cost savings if you are having to replace 33.3% of your $4 bulbs.
